Panhellenic Council

The Formal Recruitment process is an opportunity for women to meet all the Panhellenic sororities on Michigan State's campus. Each day women visit with chapters to learn more about their sisterhood, philanthropy and values. Women return to chapters based on a mutual selection process.

Michigan State's Panhellenic sororities admit new members at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. It is important to note every chapter is only required to participate in the Spring recruitment process. Chapters choose to participate in spring based on chapter and campus totals.

To participate in the recruitment process women must be enrolled for Fall 2023 classes, and on university good standing.

Panhellenic Fall Recruitment Frequently Asked Questions

Informal Recruitment (Continuous Open Bidding)

Continuous Open Bidding takes place after formal recruitment in the fall and takes place during the spring semester. Depending on the chapter size, chapters can extend bids to eligible women who are enrolled in classes at MSU and meet their membership requirements (outlined in the booklet above). Below you will find information on how the eligibility for COB works.

  1. If through the primary membership recruitment process, a potential new member receives a bid and declines it, then she is ineligible to be pledged to another NPC sorority on the same campus until the beginning of the next year’s primary membership recruitment period.
    1. Exceptions to an individual's ineligibility to be pledged may be granted by the NPC Board of Directors in the following cases: documented illegal conduct by the chapter offering the bid, or iii. documented errors in the communication of or violation of Panhellenic procedures.
    2. At a later date, but before the next primary membership recruitment period, if the potential new member who declined her bid expresses interest in being pledged to the chapter with which she originally matched, she may do so only if the chapter extends another bid and has quota or total spaces to fill.
  2. If a potential new member does not receive a bid at the end of the primary membership recruitment period, she is eligible immediately to participate in COB
  3. If through the primary membership recruitment process a potential new member accepts a bid and then has her pledge broken by an NPC sorority or breaks her pledge, then she is ineligible to be pledged to another NPC sorority on the same campus until the beginning of the next year’s primary membership recruitment period.
  4. A continuous open bidding membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement is a binding agreement. If a potential new member accepts a bid, then signs a COB acceptance or goes through the member organization’s official pledging ceremony and has her pledge broken by an NPC sorority or breaks her pledge, then she is ineligible to be pledged to another NPC sorority on that campus until the beginning of the next primary membership recruitment period. Continuous Open Bidding (COB) Paperwork.
  5. During COB, the proof of a woman’s membership acceptance shall be a dated continuous open bidding membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement signed by the woman and witnessed by a member of the sorority chapter.
